Iron Kettle Repair
If you've ever been busily working on email or chasing the kids and forgotten your tea kettle boiling away on the stove, you're not the only one. I've heard some wild stories about people wandering off and forgetting their kettle. Thankfully no one I know has burned their house down.
Leaving your kettle on that long can cause some real damage which, depending on the material, can mean either tossing your kettle or trying to find a way to fix it. Should you have one of the lovely little iron ones, you probably won't be rushing out to replace it since they tend to be pricey (though totally worth it).
Stéphane, over at Tea Masters, offers some insight on how to help your iron kettle recover:
I boiled some rice in the tetsubin until it became porridge. Then I waited until it become cold, removed the porridge, cleaned the pot and waited another night. Now, when I'm using the tetsubin, the water has stopped leaking from these cracks. What a relief! And how amazing that something as common and natural as rice could repair an iron kettle!(According to a comment there, this might also work on ceramic kettles.)
